Cotococha Amazon Lodge is an Ecological Lodge with international conservation certifications, the lodge is located 125 miles southeast of the capital city of Quito, The surrounding area forms one of the most biologically diverse regions in the world. It features 22 large bungalows, assembled respecting the harmony with the neighboring Amazon rainforest. All bungalows offer a private bathroom, a private veranda with reclining chairs or hammocks to rest and admire the wonders of the Ecuador’s Amazon. The Lodge’s social areas were thoughtfully designed to offer comfort and relaxation for a marvelous holiday in the Ecuadorian Amazon. To protect the enchanted environment of the Amazon, Cotococha Amazon Lodge uses oil lamps to light the bungalows. The Lodge does not use electricity to avoid causing a negative impact to its environments. However, electric devices can easily be charged at the reception area.

Getting to Cotococha Amazon Lodge by public bus

Numerous public bus companies operate the route Quito to Tena departing from Quito’s main bus terminal. The trip takes roughly 5 hours. Cotococha Amazon Lodge can organize a pick up at the Tena bus terminal by one of the staff members to take you on the final 45 minutes ride to the Lodge on another public bus. Cotococha Lodge is able to provide under request a private transfer from Tena to the lodge at an extra cost.

Itinerary 3 Days

Day 1

Arrival at the Lodge in the afternoon. After the long drive you will enjoy a special welcome drink, also you can relax for a while in our pool or in our beautiful spacious bungalow built in a rustic native design surrounded by gardens full of amazing jungle plants and flowers. A delicious dinner will be served in a romantic candlelight-setting at the attractively decorated restaurant. Afterwards, we will be relaxing ourselves around the elegant fireplace, to coordinate and discuss next day’s activities with the local crew. We’ll feel absolutely comfortable in this lovely peaceful setting filled with nightly sights and sounds of the Amazon jungle.

Day 2

After breakfast, we depart by canoe upstream for ten minutes, arriving to a small shore where we begin a fun and thrilling one hour walk, marveling ourselves with the jungle’s secondary forest diverse flora and fauna. After our short hike, we’ll find ourselves in a breathtaking cascade “La Cascada de Latas” where we will take a refreshing bath in its clear crystal waters and enjoy the surrounding views, which, mixed with the jungle sounds, makes it an unforgettable experience. We return along the same way to have lunch at the lodge. However, you have the possibility to go back by canoe or take an exciting tube ride along the Napo River back to the lodge. After lunch we put on our rubber boots to start an exciting walk in the jungle’s primary forest ready to find the secret wonders of the mysterious hidden jungle, finding amazing plant species with medicinal properties, which will be explained in detail by our expert native guide: their characteristics and how the jungle inhabitants used them in ancient times. We’ll also observe a great variety of insects, small groups of monkeys weaving around the giant trees; though we will need some luck to observe them, that’s why we must stay very quiet to admire these beautiful creatures. Dozens of curious colorful birds tag along with us during our walk whistling enchanted notes delighting our senses. After about three hours of walking we will arrive at the Lodge again. At night, a delicious dinner will be served and there is the possibility to do an exciting night walk, when you will observe many night insects. Afterwards, it’s time for a good and peaceful rest delighted by the nightly sounds of the jungle.

Day 3

After breakfast, we will have to prepare our return trip. End of our program

Itinerary 4 Days

Day 1

Arrival at the Lodge in the afternoon. After the long drive you will enjoy a special welcome drink, also you can relax for a while in our pool or in our beautiful spacious bungalow built in a rustic native design surrounded by gardens full of amazing jungle plants and flowers. A delicious dinner will be served in a romantic candlelight-setting at the attractively decorated restaurant. Afterwards, we will be relaxing ourselves around the elegant fireplace, to coordinate and discuss next day’s activities with the local crew. We’ll feel absolutely comfortable in this lovely peaceful setting filled with nightly sights and sounds of the Amazon jungle.

Day 2

After our delicious breakfast, we’ll be more than ready to start today’s adventure! We will start with a canoe ride down the imposing Napo River crossing the enchanted Ecuadorian jungle. Soon we arrive at Misahualli, where we’ll have to stop for around 30 minutes for routine inspection by the local Marina officers. We continue our canoe ride until we reach the Arajuno River. Here we will visit the Animal Rescue Center “AmaZOOnico”. This is a specialized organization dedicated to the rescue of wild animals and restoring them into their natural habitat. We will observe a great variety of species such as toucans, parrots, all kind of monkeys, ocelots, capybaras and much more….

After our visit to this beautiful sanctuary, we’ll enjoy a scrumptious lunch by the river shore, picnic style. Afterwards, we can swim in the refreshing river waters o simply rest ourselves surrounded by the peaceful surroundings.

We’ll head back to our Lodge, upon arrival we will make traditional chocolate in the lodge. At night after dinner there will be some free time to gather around the cozy fireplace or enjoy an exotic cocktail at our bar.

Day 3

After breakfast, we depart by canoe upstream for ten minutes, arriving to a small shore where we begin a fun and thrilling one hour walk, marveling ourselves with the jungle’s secondary forest diverse flora and fauna. One of the native Quichua families will show us their ancestral costumes like gold washing, pottery techniques, the making of the typical drink “chicha” made of yuca and blowpipe hunting. After this fascinating cultural exchange with the Quichuas, we’ll continue our way to Cotococha by a path on secondary forest.

Day 4

After breakfast, we must prepare for our drive back to the city. End of our program.

After breakfast, we put on our “wet gear” (boots & rain coat) to start an exciting day-walk in the jungle’s primary forest ready to find the secret wonders of the mysterious hidden jungle, finding amazing plant species with medicinal properties, which will be fully explained by our expert native guide:

their characteristics and how the jungle inhabitants used them in ancient times. We’ll also observe a great variety of insects, small groups of monkeys weaving around the giant trees; though we must stay very quiet to admire these beautiful creatures. Dozens of curious colorful birds tag along with us during our walk whistling beautiful notes delighting our senses. After about three hours of walking, we’ll have a box lunch in the middle of the jungle, recovering energy surrounded by a fascinating environment. Afterwards, we will return by a different trail, observing more wonders of the jungle. Arrive to the Lodge in the afternoon. At night, a delicious dinner and time for relaxation.

In the afternoon we pack our bathing suits for a exciting filled with adrenaline tube ride along the Napo River brown waters, always assisted by our guide and canoe, safety above all! Afterwards, we will arrive at an indigenous museum. Here our guide will brief us on how they used to hunt for animals such as birds, rodents and mammals with hand-made traps. By night, after you enjoyed a delicious dinner, it is time for an exciting night walk. This walk will take place in the jungle around the lodge, where you will see all kinds of animals that are hidden during the day. Afterwards, it´s time to rest.

Day 5

After breakfast, we must prepare for our drive back to the city. End of program.
