Day 1TRANSFER IN QUITO

Arrival in Quito and transfer to your hotel. Overnight at mentioned hotel in Quito.

Day 2QUITO CITY TOUR & EQUATOR LINE

Today you are going to visit the Capital’s colonial downtown. Declared by UNESCO “World Cultural Heritage”, Quito invites you to visit its historic and modern treasures, walking around the Independence Plaza, the Metropolitan Cathedral, and Archbishop’s Palace, the Municipality, and the Carondelet Government Palace. Due to its multiple temples and cloisters, Quito is known as “America’s Cloisters.” You will visit “La Compañía” church and the San Francisco Convent. Later you will be taken to “El Panecillo”, a small hill in the middle of the city with a fabulous view of the 45 km long and 4 km wide city and the snow-capped volcanoes In the afternoon we will visit the world famous Equator, “Mitad del Mundo” which is located only 30 minutes from Quito. From here you can jump from the Northern Hemisphere to the Southern Hemisphere. In the 18th century the French Geodesic Expedition arrived here to perform important researches and investigate the Earth’s actual form. Visit also the interesting Intiñan Museum where you learn about all the different cultures of Ecuador. Overnight at mentioned hotel in Quito.

Day 3MINDO

Mindo is a mountainous watershed situated in the western slopes of the Andes, where two of the most biologically diverse ecoregions in the world meet: the Chocoan lowlands and the Tropical Andes. In this transitional area — which covers an area of 268 square kilometers and ranges from 960–3,440 metres above sea level — three rivers and hundreds of streams irrigate the landscape, which consists of a patchwork of cloud forests, secondary forests, agricultural land, and human settlements.

Day 4MINDO – COTOPAXI

We will begin our day with a trip to the Cotopaxi province through the “Volcano Avenue”. In the morning you will have the opportunity to visit a typical highland farm and a rose plantation. Here you will be able to observe their activities. Following this you will visit Cotopaxi National Park. This reserve lies at the feet of the world’s highest active snow-capped volcano, Cotopaxi (19,350 ft.). We continue to visit Limpiopungo Lake inside the park.

Day 5COTOPAXI – RIOBAMBA

The day begins with an inspiring visit to the famous “Avenue of the Volcanoes”, where striking the impressive Cotopaxi volcano and populations and beautiful landscapes that can be observed. We continue to the province of Chimborazo up to Riobamba, known as the Sultan of the Andes, being surrounded by beautiful volcanoes and glaciers. The city tour includes the Monastery of the Conceptas and artistic wealth.

Day 6RIOBAMBA – ALAUSI – CUENCA

Our day begins at the Riobamba station where we will board a train. This train passes through the Cajabamba and the Colta lagoons, and Guamote village. It climbs to a little picturesque town in the highlands called Alausí. Next comes the most exhilarating part of the journey: The train zigzags up and down 45-degree gradient called “Nariz del Diablo” (Devil’s Nose). After this spectacular ride the train goes backwards, and then returns to Alausí. After the train trip we will continue to the Ingapirca ruins, located in the Cañar province. Ingapirca, which means “Incas stone wall” is believed today that worked both a religious and administrative center, as well as a fortress. The Incas built the complex on top of an old Cañari tribe settlement and consists of a roofless fortification, courtyards, terraces, temples, houses and a “castle” considered to be the “Temple of the Sun”. After Ingapirca we will continue to Cuenca.

Day 7CUENCA CITY + VALLEYS OF CUENCA

After breakfast we will begin our trip to the city of Cuenca. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The architectural beauty of its historical center with all its elements: churches, parks, colonial houses, cobbled streets, archaeological remains and the gorge of the river Tomebamba. Cuenca City of finding and maintaining contrasts traditional conservatism and reflected in real cultural monuments like the Cathedral Cuenca, famous for its blue domes, and especially for its Romanesque architecture, which glows gold and lavish marble delivery the magnificence of this building that in its sector is among the best of America Hispania. You also will get to visit Chordeleg & Gualaceo – town and parish and seat of Chordeleg Canto and is well known for its jewelry industry, especially gold and silver filigree jewelry. Day 8CUENCA – CAJAS NATIONAL PARK – GUAYAQUIL

After breakfast we will begin our trip to Guayaquil, with a visit to El Cajas National Park – home to a large variety of animals, some of which are endemic or highly endangered. Among the most prominent are the Condor, of which only 80 remain throughout all Ecuador; the Curiquinga, a large black and white raptor, and the largest hummingbird of the world, the Giant Hummingbird, which lives only on agave flowers. The avifauna consists of 157 bird species, making birdwatching an alluring activity for visitors. Overall, forty-four mammalian species have been identified in the park. Species include different types of opossums, cats, and bats. Also there are pumas, coatis, weasels, skunks, foxes, porcupines, pacas, shrews, rabbits and other rodents. At least seventeen species of amphibians live around the lagoons of Cajas. This includes those of the genera Atelopus, Telmatobius, Gastrotheca, Eleutherodactylus, and Colostethus.
