Today you are going to visit the Capital’s colonial downtown. Declared by UNESCO “World Cultural Heritage”, Quito invites you to visit its historic and modern treasures, walking around the Independence Plaza, the Metropolitan Cathedral, and Archbishop’s Palace, the Municipality, and the Carondelet Government Palace. Due to its multiple temples and cloisters, Quito is known as “America’s Cloisters.” You will visit “La Compañía” church and the San Francisco Convent. Later you will be taken to “El Panecillo”, a small hill in the middle of the city with a fabulous view of the 45 km long and 4 km wide city and the snow-capped volcanoes In the afternoon we will visit the world famous Equator, “Mitad del Mundo” which is located only 30 minutes from Quito. From here you can jump from the Northern Hemisphere to the Southern Hemisphere. In the 18th century the French Geodesic Expedition arrived here to perform important researches and investigate the Earth’s actual form. Once in Baños we will take an interesting walking tour around the town. In Baños you can taste delicious local sweets made of sugar cane such as “melcochas”, “alfeñiques”, “panela” and pure sugar cane juice. This visit also includes visit to the “Pailón del Diablo” waterfall whichis a fairly large waterfall (located on the Pastaza River) just 30 minutes away from the town of Baños . It is considered to be one of the most popular attractions in the area. The name of the waterfall in Spanish (Paílón del Diablo) means in English “Cauldron of the Devil”

Nariz del Diablo (the “Devil’s Nose”) is a historic train ride in the central highlands of Ecuador with beautiful views. it covers the steepest section of track from Alausi to Sibambe Station
just beyond the Devil’s Nose. In 1899, after 25 years of frustrated plans and abortive attempts, work finally started on Ecuador’s first railway, which would link the coastal city of Guayaquil with the capital, Quito, in the highlands – a feat finally achieved in 1908. The greatest obstacle, which prompted the line to be dubbed “the most difficult railway in the world”, was met 130km east of Guayaquil at a near-vertical wall of rock, known as El Nariz del Diablo (The Devil’s Nose).
