Rhinoplasty

The average cost of rhinoplasty in the US is $7,500 according to 2016 statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Rhinoplasty, or surgery to shape the nose, is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures.  Rhinoplasty can reduce or increase the size of your nose, change the shape of the tip of the nose or the bridge, narrow the span of the nostrils or change the angle between the nose and upper lip.  You can also correct a birth defect or injury, or help improve breathing problems.

Rhinoplasty can enhance your appearance and confidence in yourself, it will not necessarily change your appearance.  “I advise my patients to think carefully about the expectations ” says the specialist.  The best candidates for rhinoplasty are people who want to improve their appearance.  If you are physically healthy, psychologically stable and realistic in your expectations, then it may be a good candidate.

Dr. Patiño told us that it is essential to have good communication with the patient.  “During the initial consultation, he will ask about the nose appearance wanted and he will evaluate the structure of both nose and face to explain further in the possibilities.  He will also explain the factors that can influence the procedure and results.  These factors include the structure of cartilage and bones of the nose, the shape of the face, the thickness of the skin, the age and the expectations. ”

He will also explain the techniques and anesthesia to be used, where the surgery will be performed and any other information required by the patient.”

Specific instructions are given on how to prepare for surgery, including some suggestions on what to eat and drink, about smoking, about which vitamins and medications should be taken or avoided and how to wash your face, “according to the doctor, if the person follows carefully these instructions will help the surgery to go more efficiently and smoothly’’ in making preparations, be sure to arrange for someone to be your companion after the surgery and to you help for a few days if necessary.

Rhinoplasty can be performed under local or general anesthesia, depending on the extent of the procedure and depending on what you and your surgeon prefer.

With local anesthesia you are lightly sedated, numbing your nose and surrounding area; You will be awake during surgery, however, you are relaxed and insensitive to pain. with general anesthesia you sleep throughout the process.

Rhinoplasty usually takes one to two hours, though complicated procedures may take longer.

During surgery, the skin of the nose is separated from the bone and cartilage structure that is supported, which is then sculpted into the desired shape over the new structure.

After the surgery a splint to help the nose maintain its new form will be applied. nasal packs or soft plastic splints could also be put in your nostrils to stabilize the bridge, which is the wall that divides the respiratory passages.

Blepharoplasty/ Eyelid Surgery information

Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure to improve the appearance of the eyelids.
Surgery can be performed on either the upper or lower lids, or both.
Whether you want to improve your appearance or are experiencing functional problems with your eyelids, eyelid surgery can rejuvenate the area surrounding your eyes.

Specifically, eyelid surgery can treat:

  • Loose or sagging skin that creates folds or disturbs the natural contour of the upper eyelid, sometimes impairing vision
  • Excess fatty deposits that appear as puffiness in the eyelids
  • Bags under the eyes
  • Drooping lower eyelids that reveal white below the iris
  • Excess skin and fine wrinkles of the lower eyelid

The surgery is performed under sedation and local anesthesia. The procedure lasts about an hour. Moist gauze is applied; no bandages are needed.

This is an outpatient procedure. Some small bruises can appear, but should last only approximately 5 to 7 days. We recommend the use of sun glasses the first weeks, to protect the area from the sun. The recovery is very fast and the results are very satisfactory.
